PKI Subject Matter Expert

Senior PKI governance and policy contract supporting a complex, high-assurance Defence environment in Canberra

Your new company

You will join a Defence Consultancy supporting a major Commonwealth Government environment, responsible for operating and maintaining critical Public Key Infrastructure that protects access to sensitive information, applications and facilities. The organisation operates high-assurance PKI capabilities across multiple security domains and maintains trust relationships with government, allied and industry partners.

Your new role

As the PKI Subject Matter Expert, you will provide senior policy, governance and assurance support for enterprise PKI services. Reporting to the PKI Operations Manager, you will review and develop PKI policies, maintain critical certification documentation and advise Defence stakeholders on compliance with government and industry trust requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and updating Certificate Practice Statements and X.509 Certificate Policies
  • Ensuring PKI documentation remains aligned with Gatekeeper and CA/B Forum trust requirements
  • Providing advice, guidance and reporting to the PKI Policy Board
  • Supporting annual PKI audits and coordinating responses to audit findings
  • Liaising with Defence projects seeking PKI support
  • Developing policy and documentation for smartcard adoption
  • Supporting international PKI engagement and interoperability outcomes
  • Monitoring emerging PKI, cryptographic and security developments
  • Contributing to future capability initiatives, including post-quantum cryptography
  • Supporting controlled PKI operational and assurance activities

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful, you will have:

  • An active NV1 security clearance
  • Demonstrated senior-level Public Key Infrastructure experience
  • Experience developing or maintaining PKI policy and governance documentation
  • Strong knowledge of Certificate Policies, Certificate Practice Statements and X.509
  • Experience with PKI audit, assurance, compliance or accreditation activities
  • Knowledge of Gatekeeper, CA/B Forum, WebTrust or comparable trust frameworks
  • Excellent technical writing, analysis and stakeholder engagement skills
  • The ability to provide authoritative advice to technical and executive stakeholders
  • The ability to work primarily from Defence premises in Canberra
  • Experience with Microsoft Root Program requirements, ACP-185, CCADB, HSMs, smartcards, allied interoperability or post-quantum cryptography will be highly regarded.
