THE ROLE
GGC is seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer with a passion for protection systems to provide technical leadership across our HV engineering portfolio. This pivotal role will be responsible for guiding engineering decision-making, leading design for substations up to 500kV, and shaping the engineering frameworks, tools and processes that support both project delivery and business growth.
Working closely with our clients, project teams and internal stakeholders, you will develop innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions that balance technical excellence, commercial outcomes and project requirements. As a recognised technical authority within the business, you will mentor engineers, influence key design decisions and help drive the successful delivery of complex HV infrastructure projects across the energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical and engineering decision-making for HV primary and secondary systems, protection and substation design projects up to 500kV.
- Partner with clients and pre-contract teams to develop practical, fully scoped and commercially competitive project solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight across multi-disciplinary electrical infrastructure projects from concept through to delivery.
- Oversee design activities, engineering studies and technical outputs to ensure solutions are safe, compliant, fit-for-purpose and cost-effective.
- Support project delivery teams by proactively managing technical risks, resolving design challenges and ensuring project objectives are achieved.
- Develop and continuously improve engineering tools, design standards, templates, frameworks and best practices across the business.
- Mentor and support internal and external engineering teams while fostering a strong safety, quality and customer-focused culture.
Requirements
- Degree-qualified Electrical Engineer.
- RPEQ registration, or CPEng with eligibility to obtain RPEQ.
- Extensive experience delivering HV infrastructure projects.
- Strong expertise in protection design, secondary systems and substation engineering.
- Proven experience with power system studies, network connection solutions and engineering assessments.
- Strong understanding of project delivery, constructability and cost-effective design.
- Ability to build trusted client relationships and influence key stakeholders.
- Experience leading and mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.
