IBM Mainframe Db2 Tools SME

Kestrel Eight has partnered with a global enterprise technology vendor to deliver a large-scale mainframe tooling modernisation program for a major Australian Government client. We are looking for a senior Db2 for z/OS tools specialist to lead the Db2 stream of this program, working alongside the vendor’s delivery team.

The opportunity

You will lead the migration of the client’s full Db2 for z/OS tools estate to a modern IBM enterprise platform, sequencing the conversion across a wide range of DBA and tooling functions: bind analysis, query monitoring, change management, recovery, data extraction and SQL performance.

It is a broad estate and the sequencing matters. This will suit a senior Db2 practitioner who has run a tools conversion before and can hold data integrity and performance parity as non-negotiables while the estate moves.

What you will do

  • Validate technical requirements across the Db2 tools estate.
  • Design and build the migration and deployment approach, sequencing across the full tool set.
  • Execute migration and deployment.
  • Support test planning and execution, particularly data integrity and SQL performance parity.
  • Train client DBAs on the new tooling.

What you will bring

  • Senior Db2 for z/OS DBA or tools specialist background, ideally with direct experience on CA Db2 tools (RC/Migrator, RC/Query, Detector, or similar).
  • Experience with a modern enterprise Db2 tools administration and automation suite.
  • A track record leading a Db2 tools migration or conversion project, not just steady-state DBA work.
  • Current NV1 (or above) security clearance and Australian citizenship.

Well Regarded

  • Test data management and data masking tooling experience.
  • Advanced Db2 SQL performance tuning.
