The Opportunity

An established and highly regarded commercial and architectural joinery business is expanding its operations in Canberra and is looking for an experienced

Project Manager to join the team on a full-time, permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, Contracts Manager, Project Coordinator or Construction Manager with a strong background in commercial joinery, architectural joinery, shopfitting, commercial fit-out or interiors.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end management of larger commercial joinery projects, taking ownership from project commencement through to final completion.

Working across a variety of high-quality commercial and architectural joinery projects throughout Canberra, you will coordinate internal teams, builders, subcontractors, suppliers and site personnel to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.

This is a genuine project management position, rather than a site-based supervisory role. You will be responsible for managing the commercial and operational aspects of your projects while working closely with the company's estimating, design, manufacturing and installation teams.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will take ownership of the successful delivery of multiple commercial and architectural joinery projects, managing the project lifecycle from award through to handover.

You will work closely with builders, clients, architects, subcontractors and internal teams to ensure projects are properly planned, coordinated and delivered.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Managing the end-to-end delivery of commercial and architectural joinery projects
  • Taking ownership of projects from contract award through to final completion and handover
  • Developing and managing project programmes, schedules and key milestones
  • Coordinating project requirements between estimating, design, drafting, procurement, manufacturing and site teams
  • Managing project budgets, costs and financial performance
  • Monitoring project profitability and identifying potential commercial risks
  • Managing variations, additional works, extensions of time and other contractual matters
  • Reviewing scopes of work, contracts, drawings, specifications and project documentation
  • Liaising with builders, clients, architects, designers, subcontractors and other project stakeholders
  • Attending project meetings and providing regular progress updates
  • Managing procurement and ensuring materials and products are available in line with programme requirements
  • Coordinating manufacturing and factory production schedules with project requirements
  • Ensuring joinery is manufactured, delivered and installed in accordance with approved drawings and specifications
  • Coordinating site installation activities with Site Managers, Supervisors and subcontractors
  • Monitoring project progress and proactively identifying potential delays or issues
  • Managing project risks and developing solutions to keep projects on track
  • Reviewing and approving project documentation and ensuring all relevant information is communicated to the appropriate teams
  • Managing client expectations and maintaining strong long-term relationships
  • Coordinating defects, rectification works and project close-out
  • Managing project handovers and ensuring all completion requirements are satisfied
  • Maintaining accurate project records, reports, programmes and commercial documentation
  • Ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with company procedures, quality standards and WHS requirements
  • Providing leadership and direction to project teams throughout the project lifecycle
  • Taking full commercial and operational ownership of project outcomes

About You

We are looking for an experienced

Project Manager who understands the complexities of delivering commercial construction and has a strong background in joinery, shopfitting, fit-out or interiors.

To be successful, you will ideally have:

  • Strong experience within commercial joinery, architectural joinery, shopfitting, commercial fit-out or interiors
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects from commencement through to completion
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, costs and commercial outcomes
  • Strong understanding of project programmes, scheduling and construction sequencing
  • Experience managing variations, additional works and contractual requirements
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across builders, clients, architects, subcontractors and suppliers
  • A solid understanding of commercial construction and project delivery
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, specifications and project documentation
  • Strong procurement and supply-chain coordination experience
  • Experience coordinating manufacturing and site installation would be highly advantageous
  • Strong commercial awareness and attention to project profitability
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • Strong organisational and time-management capabilities
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving project issues
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Thorough understanding of WHS requirements
  • Strong computer and project administration skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and take complete ownership of project delivery
  • A professional approach when dealing with clients, builders and project stakeholders

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced

Project Manager or Senior Project Manager who understands commercial construction and has a strong background in joinery, shopfitting, fit-out or interiors.

You will be commercially minded, highly organised and confident managing projects from initial award through to completion.

You will have the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, manage budgets and programmes, identify potential project risks and ensure projects are delivered successfully.

This role would particularly suit someone who has progressed beyond a site-based supervisory position and is looking for an opportunity to take greater ownership of projects, commercial outcomes and client relationships.

A strong understanding of commercial joinery is highly desirable, as is experience coordinating design, manufacturing, procurement and installation.
