Operations Manager (IT Consulting)

You’ll create a new middle management layer for a fast-growing identity security consultancy. The role, Engineering Operations Manager, leads the seven Pod Leads who run its engineering teams. You’ll take on people leadership, utilisation and workforce planning, so senior leaders and Pod Leads can focus on technical direction and client delivery.

The essentials

• Salary: $140,000 to $170,000 plus super
• Location: Adelaide CBD office, with regular onsite attendance
• Type: Permanent, full time
• Reports to: Head of Engineering, with a dotted line to the COO

What you’ll actually do

• Lead and coach seven Pod Leads, each running teams of one to five engineers, through weekly 1:1s, performance reviews and probation management
• Own utilisation, timesheet compliance and a rolling 8-week capacity forecast, using ProjectWorks and Power BI
• Resolve resourcing conflicts with the PMO and Project Managers, and recommend hiring priorities
• Maintain a skills matrix, professional development plans and vendor certification tracking across the engineering function
• Build an operations KPI dashboard and present trends and recommendations to leadership
• Streamline and automate operational processes to reduce admin for engineers

What you’ll need

Essential

• Line management of a technical team, including managing team leaders (up to around 20 people)
• Experience with resource management and utilisation in a billable consulting or managed services business
• A track record of handling performance issues early and fairly, including improvement plans
• Strong reporting and data skills in Excel or Power BI
• Measurable operational improvements you’ve delivered

Nice to have

• A background in IT infrastructure, Cyber Security or identity
• ITIL or a similar management framework
• Experience with PSA or timesheet tools such as ProjectWorks
• Working knowledge of the Fair Work Act and leave entitlements

This is a people and operations leadership role, not a project management one.
