Primary objective

Undertake Security Classification and Transfer Eligibility Assessments (SCATE) and other assessments for the initial security

classification, accommodation placements and development of the offender management plans for prisoners at the Darwin

Correctional Centre.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Undertake Security Classification and Transfer Eligibility Assessments (SCATE) and other assessments on prisoners.

2. Develop short versions of Offender Management Plans (OMP-SV) for prisoners sentenced, through prisoner interviews

and in consultation with the Sentence Management Team.

3. Maintain accurate, legible and proficient case notes, records and statistics.

4. Be an active member of a collaborative team and participate in the ongoing development and implementation of sentence

management policies and procedures and the Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS).

5. Carry out duties as requested by the Senior Sentence Management Officer and Chief Correctional Officer, Sentence

Management.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Display effective, clear communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients at all levels, including Aboriginal and

other culturally diverse groups.

2. Ability to provide a high standard of written and oral communication skills, with a high attention to detail.

3. Demonstrated capacity to be proactive in identifying problems and providing practical solutions, in an innovative way.

4. Ability to work autonomously or as a collaborative team member, manage time effectively, prioritise workloads.

5. Knowledge or ability to quickly acquire the understanding of motivational interviewing principles.

6. High level of skills in the use of computer, electronic media, and software package applications including MS Office suite

and databases.

7. Ability to follow policies and procedures within the workplace.

8. Display sound professional ethics of confidentiality and discretion.

Desirable

1. Knowledge or ability to quickly acquire, the objectives, structure and legislation of Northern Territory Correctional

Services.

2. Knowledge and understanding of the requirement and limitations of working within a complex secure environment.
