Primary objective

Management, oversight and leadership of the Alice Springs Hospital Environmental Services unit including provision of clinical

cleaning services, hospital grounds maintenance and waste disposal.

Context statement

Environmental Services sits within the Alice Springs Hospital (ASH) Operations Group which provides support services to ASH

across Food Services, Laundry, Residential Services, Environmental Services, Ground Transport, Ward Clerks and Orderly Services.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Responsible for the provision of an effective and efficient environmental cleaning, waste and grounds service to Public and

Clinical areas of the ASH, Renal Flynn Drive and onsite outlying buildings adhering to Infection Control and cleaning standards.

2. Manage all staff related matters as they arise including recruitment, human resource issues and training requirements.

3. High level understanding and working knowledge of legislation pertaining to Employment Conditions, Procurement Guidelines,

Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), Hygiene and Infection Control.

4. Financial management of Environmental Services cost centre in line with approved budgets.

5. Participate in the process for the ongoing replacement of equipment, repairs and maintenance programs.

6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

7. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

8. Interpret national trends in the field of Environmental Services and their implications for the Alice Springs Hospital.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. High level management experience in a public/private sector environment with the ability to accurately analyse and clearly

communicate a range of issues particularly with regard to change management practices.

2. Demonstrated commitment to excellence and exhibits integrity and professionalism.

3. Ability to liaise and communicate with a broad range of internal and external agencies and contractors.

4. Management experience in a multi-discipline work environment displaying highly developed interpersonal skills.

5. Ability to effectively develop, implement and manage change processes.

6. High level knowledge of contemporary practices including business planning, resource management and staff management.

7. High level knowledge of business administration principles and practice, associated legislation and policy including human

resources, risk management and financial management.

8. Extensive knowledge of computer applications including Word, Excel, Access and other software packages.

9. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

Desirable

1. Degree in public sector management or equivalent.
