Your Impact
As Legal Director, Economic and Housing Rights, you will lead an innovative program focused on tenancy, consumer and civil law, while shaping systemic advocacy that addresses the root causes of economic injustice.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the strategic direction and delivery of Westjustice’s Economic & Housing Rights Program, ensuring high-quality of client-centred and trauma-informed services.
- Oversee legal practice management, compliance and risk maintaining best-practice professional standards.
- Drive systemic advocacy and law reform initiatives to address economic disadvantage, housing insecurity and barriers to justice.
- Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing and values-aligned culture.
- Build and strengthen partnerships across government, sector networks and community stakeholders to amplify impact.
- Contribute to organisational strategy, funding growth and program sustainability through budget oversight and funding opportunities.
What you bring
You are a dynamic and experienced legal leader with a deep commitment to social justice, systemic change and understand the challenges faced by disadvantaged communities. You will bring a strong mix of legal expertise, significant leadership capability, and big strategic thinking to drive impact.
You also have:
- A principal practicing certificate (or eligible to obtain one) with significant legal expertise in tenancy, consumer, debt, banking, insurance or broader civil law.
- Proven people leadership of legal and multidisciplinary teams, including mentoring and fostering high performing teams
- Proven ability to collaborate and influence with government and sector stakeholders to drive systemic change.
- Experience in managing complex delivery programs, including risk management and compliance oversight
- An expert ability to make strategic decisions, work autonomously, and deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Excellent organisational, time management, and communication skills
