Consultant Paediatrician

A major hospital in Northern Australia is seeking an experienced and dedicated

Consultant Paediatrician to join its dynamic and rapidly evolving Child Health Service. This is an exceptional opportunity to work in one of the most clinically diverse regions in the country, serving urban, regional, and remote communities across the Top End.

This role is ideal for a paediatrician passionate about acute care, Indigenous health, rural outreach, and delivering high-impact medicine within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.

The Opportunity

You will join a skilled team providing paediatric care across:

  • A busy paediatric inpatient unit
  • Special Care Nursery / neonatal resuscitation
  • Paediatric emergency consults
  • Outpatient and specialty clinics
  • Remote and rural outreach (in-person and via telehealth)

This hospital is a key referral centre for complex paediatric presentations across remote communities, offering a rare blend of tertiary-level medicine and meaningful community impact.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver specialist-level paediatric care for infants, children, and adolescents

Participate in on-call roster for paediatric emergencies and neonatal cover

Support outreach clinics to regional and remote communities

Work closely with medical, nursing, and allied health teams in a collaborative model

Provide clinical supervision and teaching to registrars, junior doctors, and students

Contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance, and service development

Deliver culturally safe, family-centred care with a strong commitment to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children

About You

We are seeking a Paediatrician who brings:

  • FRACP in General Paediatrics, or equivalent
  • AHPRA Specialist Registration (or eligibility)
  • Strong experience in acute paediatrics and neonatal resuscitation
  • Interest or experience in Indigenous health and rural/remote paediatrics (highly regarded)
  • A collaborative, adaptable and culturally respectful approach
  • Commitment to teaching, mentoring and capacity-building
  • Desire to practise medicine with purpose in a diverse and challenging clinical environment
