Primary objective

As part of a team provide high quality administrative and paralegal advice and support to Summary Prosecutors within the

Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide high level administrative and paralegal advice and support to Summary Prosecutors within the DPP.

2. Prepare legal documentation and briefs including briefs for defence counsel.

3. Liaise with courts and police, respond to telephone enquiries and maintain file and document management systems.

4. Understand and adhere to Local Court practice and directions.

5. Manage a range of concurrent activities in a timely and efficient manner, with minimum supervision, ensuring that

deadlines are adhered to.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Proven ability to provide high level administrative support and paralegal advice as well as the ability to maintain

confidentiality to summary prosecutors within the DPP.

2. Sound organisational and analytical skills and high-level of self-management, including a proven ability to determine

workload priorities, work under pressure, team player, use initiative and meet stringent deadlines without close

supervision in a busy environment.

3. Sound interpersonal skills together with good oral and written communication skills to be able to communicate effectively

with the public, peers and other agency officers, displaying sensitivity and cultural awareness.

4. Experience as a paralegal in the practice of criminal matters along with assisting in the preparation of legal documents

together with an understanding of policy and procedures as they relate to the Local Courts.

5. Experience in document and file management, with sound legal / general administrative experience, including a sound

working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs and electronic databases, with significant experience

in drafting correspondence.

6. Knowledge of the differing requirements, aspirations, cultural values, economic situations and political sensitivities of

clients and stakeholders including the issues facing Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory.

Desirable

1. Certificate in Legal Studies, or study towards a degree in law or similar.
