What you'll be doing

The Intellectual Disability clinician will inform and guide health staff on the delivery of care for people with intellectual disability and their carers and families.

The position will lead the development of appropriate clinical practice for patients/clients with intellectual disability and their carers and families in any hospital or site in the local health district e.g. community health or outpatient setting.

The position will assist the Northern Sydney LHD specialised intellectual disability health team in developing and delivering outreach in the district. The outreach service will include multidisciplinary assessment and care planning for people with complex health needs and intellectual disability and activity to build the skills, confidence and experience of mainstream clinicians.

The position will strategically drive disability inclusion frameworks and develop strategies to support systemic improvement within the MNCLHD.

This position is location negotiable within Mid North Coast LHD.

About you

  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and ability in the management of people with intellectual disability, including a strong understanding of current best practice models, relevant policies and key agencies such as NDIA and Council for Intellectual Disability.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide clinical governance and team leadership, and experience in the provision of high quality education to peers, clients, and other service providers, including understanding of adult learning principles and experience in developing and delivering group-based learning.
