Your Opportunity
Urban Utilities has an opportunity for an Operations Engineer within our Preventions team.
The Preventions team is focused on reducing service risks and preventing failures across our water and wastewater networks. Using data-driven insights, automated monitoring tools, and proactive investigation of network issues, the team helps ensure reliable services, protect public health and the environment, enhance customer outcomes, and support compliance with regulatory and safe drinking water requirements.
The Preventions team is part of our wider Operations and Maintenance portfolio, dedicated to the safe and efficient delivery of water services through the operation and maintenance of our water, wastewater and resource recovery infrastructure. This team is vital to Urban Utilities’ purpose to “Enrich Quality of Life,” ensuring the safety of our people and customers, protecting public health and the environment, meeting customer needs, and minimising long-term service costs.
The Operations Engineer is responsible for -
- Analysing operational data to deliver actionable insights that improve network performance and resilience.
- Investigating complex operational issues and implementing effective engineering solutions.
- Developing automated surveillance tools to identify and mitigate emerging network risks.
- Driving continuous improvement through automation, innovation, and process optimisation.
- Supporting the development of engineering standards, procedures, and operational best practices.
- Collaborating across teams to enhance operational capability and data-driven decision-making.
About You
- Bachelor of Engineering or relevant degree from a recognised institution.
- Proven technical experience in operational engineering.
- Experience in providing technical support functions on water and wastewater networks.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the technical dimensions of operating a water utility and the associated regulatory obligations.
- Confident in providing technical guidance to achieve operations targets using appropriate methods, tools, processes and software.
- Experience in operational intelligence, process automation, OT/IoT technologies, or data science is highly desirable.
