WHO WE ARE
The Adelaide Holocaust Museum and Andrew Steiner Education Centre is a unique, contemporary museum and education centre in the heart of Adelaide. We are a museum of history with a contemporary mission to contribute to a fairer and more compassionate world by inspiring visitors to address antisemitism, racism and other hate.
An independent, non-profit organisation, the Adelaide Holocaust Museum commemorates the lives of approximately six million Jews and other innocents murdered by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. The Museum also acts as custodian of more than 460 South Australian Holocaust survivors’ stories and artefacts and is South Australia’s centre of knowledge about antisemitism.
THE ROLE
The Museum Director & CEO is AHMSEC's most senior leader, responsible for the organisation's strategic direction, operational performance, financial sustainability and community presence. This is a rare opportunity for a values-driven leader to serve an institution of profound cultural and educational significance. The role has a high level of autonomy with the Museum Director & CEO reporting to the Board of Management through regular meetings and written reports.
THE PERSON WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Demonstrated senior leadership experience, ideally in a museum, cultural institution, education or not-for-profit environment.
- Proven success in fundraising, donor stewardship and building philanthropic and government partnerships.
- Strong financial acumen, including budget preparation, reporting and oversight.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills - able to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
- Ability to attract, lead and motivate staff and volunteers.
- Commitment to the values and mission of AHMSEC, including human rights, combating antisemitism and Holocaust remembrance.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience in public speaking, media engagement and advocacy.
- Familiarity with grant writing, tender preparation and grants management.
- Experience in museum curation, exhibitions, publications or related fields.
- Knowledge of, or a demonstrated willingness to develop deep knowledge of, Holocaust history and Jewish heritage.
