Expressions of interest are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for appointment as the Independent Audit Committee Member.
The Committee
The Audit Committee comprises three members in total — two Councillors and one independent member, with the independent member serving as Chair of the Committee.
The Committee plays a critical role in supporting Council’s governance, accountability and financial integrity. As the Independent Member of the Committee you will provide specialist advice and oversight in relation to:
• Internal and external audit activities
• Financial reporting processes
• Internal control systems
• Risk management and governance practices

Meetings
The Committee meets at least four times per year, with a dedicated meeting to review the annual financial statements. Meetings are generally held at the Council Administration Office, 56 Sawmill Road, Yarrabah.
Remuneration
Applicants should include remuneration expectations in their expression of interest, inclusive of:
• Preparation time
• Travel time and costs
• Meeting attendance
• Superannuation (as applicable)
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will demonstrate professional capability and experience relevant to the Committee’s functions, including but not limited to:
• Membership of a recognised professional accounting body
• Demonstrated experience in financial management, audit and governance
• Understanding of the Queensland local government legislative framework, with particular reference to financial reporting requirements
◦ Experience serving on audit or risk committees
◦ Strong analytical, communication and report writing skills
Appointment
Appointment to the Committee will be made by a resolution of Council following the selection process and a recommendation from the Chief Executive Officer. The appointment will be for an initial term of four (4) years.
