The Medical Physics Specialist (MPS) will work under the direction of the Director and Deputy Director of Medical Physics. The MPS will perform duties requiring medical physics knowledge. These include physics quality assurance of treatment planning and treatment delivery processes and devices. The MPS will contribute to projects which ensure the provision of more comprehensive or accurate radiotherapy dosimetry and calculation methods.
The MPS is expected to work as part of a team to improve and introduce new medical physics approaches and techniques to the clinical radiotherapy service at the Illawarra-Shoalhaven Cancer Care Service. The MPS will be required to contribute to the establishment of radiation oncology physics standards and procedures.
The MPS is expected to articulate a strong co-operative approach with radiation therapists, radiation oncologists and other specialist groups within the department. The MPS will be based at the Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre but may occasionally be required to work at the Illawarra Cancer Care Centre or attend both sites from time to time for operational or educational purposes. Opportunities exist for suitable candidates to participate in research collaborations and receive honorary appointments with the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics at the University of Wollongong.

- Applicable vaccination requirements for a Category A role.
- Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- ACPSEM certification in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics or Radiotherapy Commissioning and Quality Assurance. Consideration will also be given to candidates who have completed the TEAP written exam and expect to complete the practical exam within 12 months.
- MSc or PhD in physics or medical physics as recognised by ACPSEM.
- Eligible to hold an IA29 radiation licence issued by NSW Environment Protection Authority
- Valid NSW Drivers Licence
