Westmead Hospital is a major tertiary referral and teaching hospital, renowned for delivering world-class healthcare, education and research. The Neurosurgical / Trauma Clinical Observation Unit (COU) provides specialised care to patients requiring close monitoring and expert nursing intervention following neurosurgical and traumatic injuries.

What you'll be doing

As a Registered Nurse within the Neurosurgical / Trauma COU, you will deliver high-quality, person-centred care that supports positive patient outcomes. You will work collaboratively with patients, families and healthcare professionals to provide safe, evidence-based care in a fast-paced clinical setting.

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care tailored to individual patient needs
  • Monitor patient conditions, respond to clinical changes and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and discharge planning
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and support to nursing staff and students
  • Advocate for patients and families while promoting safe, efficient use of clinical resources

Essential Criteria

  • Registration: Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated extensive recent surgical nursing experience with commitment to quality improvement, practice development and evidence-based practice

2. Demonstrated application of evidence based practice and critical thinking to patient care

3. Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, delegate, and negotiate with others to deliver quality nursing care

4. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology, written and verbal means, and sound interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people.
