THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director, Internal Review, the Principal Advisor will ensure the SSR appropriately considers information in the SSR's possession from a child safety perspective (or other related discipline). This senior-level role will be instrumental in engaging with the expert panel as required from time to time as well as ensuring internal review applications are determined in a way that is procedurally fair, robust and timely. This will require the Principal Advisor to utilise their child safety expertise and work closely with the Principal Legal Counsel. The Principal Advisor will also support the development of systems and processes that underpin internal reviews and contribute to the learning and development of other areas of SSR involved in decision-making.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

Day-to-day your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide authoritative and timely advice on complex internal review matters, applying legislative, procedural fairness and child safety principles to support independent, risk-informed and defensible review outcomes, including identifying safeguarding concerns, behaviours or patterns where relevant.
  • Conduct the internal review of applications received by the SSR from time to time, including through the preparation and delivery of high-quality, evidence-based briefs, draft statements of reasons and recommendations, critically analysing complex information from a variety of sources to present clear, well-reasoned advice to decision-makers.
  • Form part of the leadership team within the Internal Review team to enable staff to collect, review and categorise records and information relevant to internal review applications, in accordance with relevant legislative requirements, policy and organisational procedures.
