As we continue to invest in our terminal operations and critical fuel infrastructure, an exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our Engineering team and play a key role in delivering strategic capital projects across our national terminal network.

The Opportunity

This role will be responsible for leading the planning, design, tendering and delivery of major capital projects across United Petroleum's terminal and fuel storage facilities.

This position will take ownership of significant infrastructure upgrades, terminal expansion projects and large-scale capital works, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with regulatory, operational and commercial requirements.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors and regulatory authorities, you will oversee projects from concept through to commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of major terminal and fuel infrastructure projects
  • Manage the design, planning and execution of large-scale terminal expansion projects
  • Develop project scopes, technical specifications, budgets and project schedules
  • Prepare and manage tender documentation for major capital works projects
  • Evaluate tender submissions and provide recommendations for contractor and supplier selection
  • Oversee engineering consultants, contractors and specialist service providers throughout project delivery
  • Manage significant capital expenditure projects from concept through to commissioning and operational handover
  • Ensure all projects comply with relevant Australian Standards, industry regulations and company requirements
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Monitor project budgets, forecasting, timelines and performance outcomes
  • Provide technical engineering support and advice to terminal operations and leadership teams
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across terminal infrastructure and asset performance
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all project activities

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Degree qualifications in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Process or related Engineering discipline
  • Significant experience delivering large-scale capital projects within fuel terminals, petroleum, oil & gas, petrochemical, energy, bulk liquids or heavy industrial environments
  • Demonstrated experience managing tender processes and contractor procurement for major projects
  • Proven capability overseeing engineering design and construction activities for complex infrastructure projects
  • Strong project management, commercial and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience managing large capital budgets and multiple concurrent projects
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Commitment to safety, compliance and operational excellence

Desirable Experience

  • Fuel terminal, tank storage or pipeline infrastructure experience
  • Experience working within Major Hazard Facilities (MHF)
  • Knowledge of dangerous goods storage and handling requirements
  • Project Management qualifications (PMI, Prince2 or equivalent)
  • Experience with mechanical integrity and asset improvement programs
