The Business Concierge Officer offers a personalised consultive support service to new, existing and potential businesses in Stonnington either directly, through front counter, telephone and online enquiries or via any other Council channels or entry points (including business visits) to improve the businesses’ customer experience. The Officer is a central point of contact for businesses during the permit enquiry, application and approvals process.

The Concierge role also leads the administration of Economic Development’s customer contacts database and provides administrative support to other initiatives led by the Team, including the Grants Program. You will provide support to various business accross all areas of the City of Stonnington including Chapel Street, Armadale and South Yarra precincts. This is a busy and exciting opportunity!

Key Responsibilities

  • Successfully guide new and existing businesses through Council processes, permits, and regulatory requirements. Organise, host and attend meetings at Council offices or onsite with businesses as required.
  • Build strong relationships with local businesses by providing proactive support and tailored advice throughout their business journey
  • Ability to advocate for business needs within Council to identify areas of support and uplift in services
  • Support businesses to complete permit applications accurately and efficiently, reducing processing delays.
  • Coordinate and facilitate productive meetings between business owners, operators, and relevant Council stakeholders.
  • Ensure consistent follow-up and action tracking to achieve positive outcomes from meetings and applications.
  • Effectively liaise across Council departments to resolve business issues and improve service delivery outcomes.
  • Identify and recommend service improvements that enhance the customer experience for local businesses.
  • Strengthen collaboration between businesses and Council through clear communication and responsive problem-solving.
  • Providing outreach business support information to businesses experiencing business disruptions or temporary closure due to emergencies.

Join us in this full-time permanent role, offering a competitive salary range of $97,625.98 - $105,729.74, plus 12% superannuation.

To be suitable you will have

  • The ability to work in partnerships on initiatives and projects and an understanding of the implications for effective teamwork and service delivery.
  • Ability to plan and organise work to meet quality standards and manage frequent competing requests for information or action from customers with minimal supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage clients and colleagues clearly and professionally
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups, fostering a supportive environment and building strong relationships.

It is essential that you have an engaging manner and ability to build strong relationships as well as a desire to provide excellent customer service and support to Council’s many businesses.

It is preferred that you have

  • Knowledge or understanding of Planning and local laws
  • Knowledge of Local Government Grant administration processes
  • Understanding around running a business and the commercial pressures on businesses
  • Understanding of customer relationship management systems
