Goulburn Murray Credit Union (GMCU) is a member-owned financial institution with a proud history of serving regional communities across Northern Victoria. As a mutual organisation, we exist to create long-term value for our members—balancing financial sustainability with strong community impact.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced, values-aligned Non-Executive Director to join our Board as part of our ongoing skills-based succession planning and Board renewal.
About the Role
As a Director, you will contribute to the governance and strategic direction of GMCU, ensuring the organisation is managed soundly and prudently in accordance with regulatory expectations for Authorised Deposit-taking Institutions (ADIs).
You will:
- Contribute to Board deliberations and decision-making, bringing independent judgement
- Support the long-term sustainability, growth and relevance of GMCU
- Uphold strong governance, risk management and regulatory compliance practices
- Represent the interests of members, recognising their dual role as customers and owners
Skills and Experience Sought
Consistent with GMCU’s Board Skills Matrix and Fit & Proper requirements, we are seeking candidates with demonstrated expertise in the financial services or mutual sector, with depth in at least two key competency areas.
Highly desirable experience includes:
- Senior leadership experience in banking, credit unions, or financial services
- Deep understanding of lending, deposit-taking and financial performance drivers
- Governance experience at Board or Committee level (regulated environment preferred)
- Risk management, audit, or regulatory compliance expertise
- Strategic capability, including business transformation and growth initiatives
- Understanding of the customer-owned / mutual sector, including capital and member dynamics
