The Position

Sharp & Carter are currently partnering with a growing national organisation based in Brisbane's Eastern suburbs to recruit a permanent, full-time Assistant Accountant.

Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, this newly created position has arisen due to continued business growth and offers an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional looking to broaden their commercial finance experience.

This is far more than a traditional transactional accounts role. You will be involved in reporting, business processing, analysis, compliance and commercial finance while working closely with operational stakeholders across the business. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage month-end and year-end close activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments, reallocations and reconciliations
  • Prepare General Ledger journals and other end-of-month accounting entries
  • Produce financial reports, including Profit & Loss reporting and variance analysis
  • Analyse revenue, costs and business performance to provide meaningful financial insights
  • Support commercial billing and operational finance activities across multiple business units
  • Assist with payroll processing and finance compliance requirements
  • Review Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets and bank reconciliations as part of the month-end process
  • Monitor working capital and cash flow reporting
  • Assist with year-end audit preparation, audit packs and supporting documentation
  • Create and develop Power BI dashboards to improve reporting and business visibility
  • Produce meaningful financial reports and present trends through data visualisation
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager to identify process improvements and support strategic decision making

Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
  • Previous experience in a Finance Officer, Assistant Accountant or similar accounting position
  • Exposure to month-end reporting and financial analysis
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Experience producing reports, charts and financial analysis
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial trends to both finance and operational stakeholders
  • A proactive attitude with a genuine desire to continue learning and developing your career
  • CA/CPA qualified or currently studying will be highly regarded
