Brief Description
The role
The Technical Coach Team Leader is an operational leader responsible for driving the day-to-day delivery of technical capability development across the Recoveries & Settlements team. You will provide direct leadership to the Technical Coaches and Training Coordinator, acting as the primary connection between the Technical Capability Manager's strategic direction and on-the-ground delivery of coaching, training coordination, and capability uplift activities.
The role will be required to operate across three sites (North Lakes, Kawana, and Johannesburg (Virtual).
The Key Success Criteria For The Role Include
- Consistent delivery of coaching and training coordination activities on time and to the required standard.
- Measurable improvement in the performance and capability of direct reports, evidenced through coaching quality assessments, activity completion rates, and individual development progress.
- Smooth day-to-day operations across the team, including effective scheduling, resource coordination, and administration support with minimal gaps in program delivery.
Business Function
The Team Leader works collaboratively with the Technical Capability Manager, Technical Capability Team, and the broader Recoveries & Settlements Leadership Team to ensure consistent and effective delivery of technical capability programs. The role provides direct leadership to the Technical Coaches and Training Coordinator, ensuring their activities are aligned to business priorities and that support structures are in place to enable high quality delivery.
Key Accountabilities
- Operational Leadership and Team Development: Provide day-to-day direction and support to Technical Coaches and the Training Coordinator, ensuring the team is clear on priorities and deliverables. You will coordinate scheduling and logistics across all sites, monitor coaching quality, and support the ongoing development of your team through regular one-on-ones, performance conversations, and targeted feedback. Building a high performing, collaborative team culture that reflects Auto & General values is a key part of this role.
- Capability Delivery: Partner with the Technical Capability Manager to translate strategic capability priorities into clear delivery plans. You will support the implementation of coaching programs and capability frameworks, monitor delivery outcomes, and contribute to the ongoing refinement of coaching approaches to ensure they remain effective and aligned to business needs.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong working relationships with Technical Trainers, Recoveries & Settlements Leaders, and key stakeholders to ensure aligned and coordinated capability delivery. You will communicate regularly on delivery priorities and progress and represent the capability team in relevant operational forums.
What Experience You’ll Bring
- At least two years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role, with demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop others and a genuine interest in supporting the growth of team members.
- A strong understanding of motor claims processes and recoveries and settlements operations, or the ability to rapidly build this knowledge.
- Proven ability to lead through change, including supporting a team through structural or operational transitions while maintaining morale and productivity.
- A track record of developing high-performing teams through active coaching, regular feedback, and creating an environment where people feel supported to grow.
- Experience operating across multiple sites or managing geographically dispersed team members (desirable).
- Experience in coordinating or supporting the delivery of training, coaching, or capability programs (highly desirable).
