About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join a major insurance technology team, playing a key role in uplifting and maintaining automation frameworks across a complex enterprise platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role, not an advisory position. You'll be responsible for building high-quality automation solutions, improving framework stability, and delivering reliable automated testing across both UI and API layers.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring strong commercial experience with Playwright using JavaScript or TypeScript, along with proven experience working within the insurance industry-ideally across policy, claims, billing or insurance integrations.

We're looking for someone with a code-first mindset who enjoys solving technical challenges, building automation frameworks from the ground up, and continuously improving test quality and reliability.

What You'll Do

  • Mandatory experience working within the insurance industry, with exposure to policy, claims, billing or insurance integrations.
  • Design, build and maintain robust automation frameworks using Playwright with JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Develop clean, scalable and maintainable automation code.
  • Deliver automated testing across both UI and API layers to support end-to-end quality.
  • Analyse and improve existing automation frameworks, increasing stability, maintainability and performance.
  • Implement advanced locator strategies to automate complex and dynamic web applications.
  • Develop and execute API automation across REST services (SOAP experience advantageous).
  • Investigate and resolve flaky tests through improved synchronisation, retry logic and framework enhancements.
  • Work closely with Developers, Business Analysts and QA teams to embed quality throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of automation engineering practices across the team.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience in automation engineering (not just tool usage)
  • Strong commercial experience using Playwright with JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Proven experience designing, building and maintaining automation frameworks from scratch.
  • Strong programming skills in JavaScript and/or TypeScript with a code-first approach to automation.
  • Hands-on experience automating both UI and API testing.
  • Strong understanding of web technologies, DOM inspection, advanced locator strategies and handling dynamic elements.
  • Experience automating REST APIs with strong data validation capability (SOAP experience is a bonus).
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve framework, stability and architectural automation issues.
  • Mandatory experience within the insurance industry, ideally across policy, claims, billing or system integrations.
  • Experience with tools such as Playwright is essential. Exposure to Cypress, Selenium or Katalon is advantageous but secondary.
  • Strong engineering mindset with a focus on code quality, maintainability and long-term automation success.

Nice to Have

  • Experience integrating Playwright into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exposure to SaaS or cloud-based applications.
  • Strong experience implementing data-driven automation frameworks.
  • Experience improving automation maturity within Agile delivery teams.
