The Role

The ABC is looking for Casual Journalists and Producers to join the ABC News team in Parramatta. You'll work as part of a collaborative newsroom, researching, producing and delivering high-quality content across digital, audio and broadcast platforms. This casual role provides the opportunity to contribute to daily news coverage and enterprise journalism from Sydney and across NSW.

We are looking for people who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you will have the opportunity to break news stories first. We’re looking for someone with the flexibility to work shifts across a 7-day roster, including early starts, late finishes and weekends.

The Job

  • Research, write and produce accurate, engaging and timely news content.
  • Generate story ideas and identify issues relevant to local audiences.
  • Conduct interviews and gather content in the field and remotely.
  • Work across multiple platforms including digital, audio, video and broadcast as required.
  • Collaborate with producers, editors and newsroom colleagues to meet deadlines and editorial priorities.
  • Be available to work a rotating roster across seven days a week, with shifts scheduled between 5:00 am and 10:00 pm, depending on operational requirements.

About You

You're a passionate journalist or producer with strong news judgment, excellent storytelling skills and a commitment to accurate, impartial journalism.

You'll have:

  • Experience researching, reporting and producing news or current affairs content.
  • Strong writing, interviewing and content production skills across multiple platforms.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and contribute positively within a team environment.
