About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced IT Project Manager to lead critical upgrade initiatives within our Manufacturing and Defence Services sectors. This role requires a proactive leader capable of managing complex, enterprise-level projects from initiation through to successful completion, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, budget constraints, and quality standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong stakeholder management skills, a solid understanding of project management methodologies, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams across multiple locations, including Melbourne and Brisbane.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive project plans, including detailed schedules, resource allocations, and budgets to ensure timely delivery of IT upgrade projects.

Define clear project scope and objectives, ensuring alignment with strategic business goals and operational requirements.

Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams comprising application specialists, IT infrastructure personnel, and business stakeholders to facilitate seamless project execution.

Identify potential project risks and issues early, assess their impact, and develop effective mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions.

Monitor project progress continuously, produce detailed status reports, and communicate updates effectively to senior management and key stakeholders.

Manage relationships with vendors, third-party consultants, and external partners to ensure deliverables meet quality standards and contractual obligations.

Oversee all testing phases, including unit testing, system integration testing (SIT), and user acceptance testing (UAT), to validate system functionality and performance.

Facilitate clear and consistent communication across teams and stakeholders, fostering collaboration and transparency throughout the project lifecycle.

Ensure all projects adhere to organizational quality standards, governance frameworks, and compliance requirements.

Provide mentorship and support to other project managers and team members, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.

Prepare and present detailed submissions for IT governance forums such as Project Review Board and Architecture Review Board, including project proposals, progress reports, and post-implementation reviews.

Coordinate change management activities to ensure smooth transitions with minimal business disruption during upgrades.

Conduct post-project reviews to capture lessons learned, identify areas for improvement, and document best practices for future initiatives.

Track and analyze project performance metrics, producing adaptive reports to inform decision-making and project adjustments.

Prepare and submit funding requests and stage gate documentation to secure necessary approvals and resources for ongoing projects.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree is highly advantageous.

Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience managing enterprise IT projects, including small to medium-sized initiatives.

Proven track record of successfully delivering projects across the full project lifecycle using both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.

Professional certification such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or SAFe Agile certification is preferred.

Knowledge of ITIL framework and best practices is advantageous.

Strong understanding of project management standards, techniques, and principles, with the ability to apply them effectively.

Excellent leadership skills with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and influence stakeholders at all levels.

Experience in managing vendor relationships and coordinating third-party services.

Proficiency in project management tools such as Microsoft Project, JIRA, or Azure DevOps.

Exceptional communication skills, with demonstrated experience working with staff up to executive level.

High attention to detail, thoroughness, and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced certifications such as ITIL Foundation or Practitioner.

Experience working within manufacturing or defence sectors.

Familiarity with enterprise application upgrades and infrastructure projects.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.

Experience in managing multi-location projects, particularly in Melbourne and Brisbane regions.

Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
