Are you a commercially astute legal professional who thrives on solving complex challenges and influencing business outcomes? CS Energy is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our Corporate Services team and play a pivotal role in supporting strategic and operational objectives across a dynamic and highly regulated environment. Working closely with senior leaders, you will provide pragmatic, solutions-focused legal advice that enables informed decision-making while balancing legal risk with commercial opportunity.

As a Legal Counsel at CS Energy, your duties will include but not limited to:

  • Provides trusted, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice to support business decision-making and the achievement of CS Energy's strategic and operational objectives.
  • Acts as a key legal partner to stakeholders across the organisation, delivering timely, practical and outcome-focused legal services.
  • Supports the effective management of the legal function across a broad range of commercial, regulatory and operational matters.
  • Leads and manages legal matters relating to commercial disputes, litigation, procurement activities, energy sector issues and regulatory compliance.
  • Negotiates, drafts, reviews and settles a range of commercial agreements, contracts and dispute resolution arrangements.
  • Identifies, assesses and manages legal risk, ensuring legal obligations are met while supporting commercial outcomes and business priorities.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and external advisers to resolve complex legal issues and deliver practical, risk-based solutions.
  • Prepares and reviews legal advice, reports, briefings and recommendations for the Board, Executive Leadership Team and management.
  • Exercises sound legal judgement and provides clear, practical guidance on complex legal and regulatory matters.
  • Builds strong stakeholder relationships and effectively translates legal concepts into commercially relevant advice that supports organisational objectives.
  • Ensures legal strategies and advice are aligned with CS Energy's commercial, operational and strategic priorities.

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor of Laws degree.
  • Admission as a solicitor or barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland is an essential requirement (or eligibility for admission in Queensland).
  • Holder of a current Australian Practising Certificate.
  • At least 5 years’ relevant legal experience gained in private practice or an in-house environment.
  • Experience in the energy, resources, infrastructure or other highly regulated industries is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on and managing commercial and regulatory disputes, litigation, investigations and dispute resolution processes.
  • Strong technical legal capability across commercial law, dispute resolution, regulatory frameworks, statutory interpretation and risk management.
  • Knowledge of the Australian energy sector and regulatory environment, including experience advising on energy-related legal issues, is desirable.
  • Experience managing external legal providers and specialist advisers to achieve efficient and commercially focused outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate and simplify complex legal issues for a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely, practical and commercially focused advice in relation to commercial and regulatory disputes.
  • Resilient under pressure, with the ability to progress complex matters while maintaining sound legal judgement and alignment with CS Energy's values and standards.
