Gympie Regional Council is seeking an experienced strategic planning professional to lead Planning Scheme reviews, infrastructure planning and strategic policy initiatives that influence how the region evolves.
Working alongside senior leaders, State Government agencies and industry stakeholders, you'll play a key role in ensuring the Gympie Region is well positioned for future growth.

Lead What Comes Next
Gympie Regional Council is seeking a Coordinator Planning Scheme and Strategic Policy to join the Planning Strategy and Growth team on a permanent full time basis.
Reporting to the Manager Planning Strategy and Growth, you'll lead the delivery of Council's Planning Scheme review and amendment program, coordinate the Local Government Infrastructure Plan and drive strategic planning policy initiatives that support sustainable growth across the region.
You'll provide expert advice on planning legislation, manage complex statutory planning projects and represent Council in regional planning discussions while working collaboratively with internal teams, consultants and government stakeholders.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Leading Planning Scheme reviews, amendment packages and ongoing maintenance
- Coordinating the preparation and review of Council's Local Government Infrastructure Plan
- Developing and implementing strategic planning policies and supporting planning studies
- Build and strengthen working relationships with Council's elected officials on major projects
- Providing expert advice on planning legislation and statutory planning matters
- Managing complex planning projects through internal teams and specialist consultants
- Coordinating Council's submissions to State and Federal planning policy reforms
- Leading stakeholder and community engagement throughout Planning Scheme and policy projects
- Building productive relationships with government agencies, industry stakeholders and regional partners
- Representing Council at regional forums and industry working groups
- Mentoring planning staff while coordinating team priorities and project delivery.

You're an experienced strategic planner who enjoys leading complex planning projects and developing policy that creates lasting value for communities.
You thrive in collaborative environments, enjoy engaging with a broad range of stakeholders and take pride in delivering planning frameworks that support sustainable regional growth.
To Succeed In This Role, You'll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning or a related discipline
- Extensive experience delivering Planning Scheme reviews, amendments and strategic planning policy
- Experience with Local Government Infrastructure Plans or comparable infrastructure planning frameworks
- Strong knowledge of the Planning Act 2016, State Planning Policy, regional planning and statutory planning processes
- Extensive experience working directly with, and fostering good relationships with Council's elected officials
- Experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders and external stakeholders
- Excellent project management, stakeholder engagement and report writing skills
- The ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering quality outcomes
- A current Queensland C Class Driver Licence or the ability to obtain one.
Experience with structure planning, precinct planning or contemporary project management methodologies will be highly regarded.
