Climate Data Specialist (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your expertise in climate modeling, ecology, or environmental science could directly shape how AI understands and reasons about one of the most important challenges facing our planet? We're looking for Climate Data Specialists — environmental scientists with advanced degrees — to develop complex, real-world problems that train cutting-edge AI models to think more rigorously about climate and the natural world.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for researchers and domain experts who want to put their scientific depth to work in a meaningful new way. No prior AI experience needed — full training support is provided.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design, solve, and review advanced environmental science problems with real-world relevance and scientific rigor
  • Apply your expertise in climate modeling, ecology, sustainability, or related disciplines to create complex, nuanced problem statements
  • Evaluate AI-generated responses for scientific accuracy, depth, and clarity
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to enhance AI model reasoning
  • Ensure all deliverables meet high standards of scientific integrity and communicative precision

Who You Are

  • Hold a Master's or PhD in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Ecology, or a closely related field
  • Experienced coding in Python or R — whether for research, modeling, or data analysis
  • Deep subject matter expertise in climate modeling, ecology, sustainability, or environmental systems
  • Exceptionally clear written communicator with a sharp eye for scientific accuracy and detail
  • Self-directed and comfortable working independently in an asynchronous environment
  • Fluent in English and based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or AI evaluation workflows
  • Background in environmental policy, geospatial analysis, or computational modeling
  • Familiarity with AI tools or large language model evaluation as an end user

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI development teams
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually stimulating work
  • Apply your advanced scientific training to a frontier problem that matters at a global scale
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
