THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a motivated, pragmatic, and strategic health & safety leader to join our Mid-West Operational Management team (Mid-West OMT) based in Geraldton and Port Gregory. Reporting to the General Manager Mining Australia, the OHS Manager is responsible for managing GMA’s Mining Australia OHS function in accordance with GMA’s values, its safety vision and core safety beliefs, and the requirements of applicable laws, regulations, and other legislative instruments.
The successful incumbent will lead the operational Health, Safety and Training department and continue to develop and implement safety strategies, safety programs, systems, and practices that enhance our safety management to fulfill our safety vision.
The OHS Manager will be responsible for:
- Proactively driving the development and embedment of GMA's OHS strategy, plans, policies, and procedures for Mining Australia operations as a subject matter and technical safety expert.
- Collaborating with the Mid-West OMT to develop and implement OHS programs, initiatives, training plans and technology solutions which enhance operational safety management, performance and culture.
- Managing and improving the OHS database and reporting framework to developing a suite of pragmatic, insightful KPIs to assess progress against our safety vision.
- Managing the OHS audit program and ensure integration of management strategies for identified risks and issues into site plans.
- Conducting investigations into workplace incidents and lead communication and reporting with relevant authorities, as required
- Ensuring Midwest operations and OHS activities are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company policies.
- Managing OHS training needs analysis for GMA Mining Australia operations, ensure delivery of training and evaluating the effectiveness of programs.
- Ensuring the maintenance of OHS records including statutory registers, hazard and risk registers, plan documentation, job safety analyses, audit reports, and training records.
- Providing OHS input and advice to other GMA Garnet global businesses.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
- A minimum of 5 years senior OHS leadership experience within the resources or heavy industry.
- Tertiary qualification in OHS.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety, health and wellbeing of all individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, engage with, influence and resolve conflict across all levels of a business and with internal and external stakeholders in a constructive and meaningful manner.
- Demonstrated experience in change management with a sound understanding of effective change management processes to drive the implementation of safety policies, programs, and initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing emergency response systems and programs
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and risk management skills.
