FULL TIME TERM TIME POSITION – 8am to 3.30pm.

Position Description

POSITION: Teacher Assistant – Junior School.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal through Head of Fairholme Junior School.

REPORTS TO: Head of Learning Enhancement.

KEY FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Head of Learning Enhancement; Teachers; students; and parents.

We seek a committed, professional and appropriately qualified teacher assistant wanting to join the College community in the important field of learning support. Particularly, we seek an assistant with a demonstrated ability and interest in the support students of girls’ learning in the Junior school. The ideal candidate will be committed to longevity within the role and possess experience working with students with a variety of learning, social and emotional needs.

Position Overview

As a Teacher Assistant, under direction of the Head of Fairholme Junior School, you will undertake the following set of key responsibilities and understandings within College operations:

  • Demonstrate support for and demonstrate personal alliance with the College’s Christian values and ethos.
  • Be skilled at working with students with a range of academic and social emotional needs of students.
  • Understand and enact appropriate professional boundaries – especially when working on a one-on-one situation.

Specific Duties

  • Have experience in learning support for students in a school setting and be a pivotal member of the team that oversees and engages in student learning support for all students of the Junior School.
  • Work both independently and as a team member in supporting the learning of students requiring support, doing so under the guidance of teaching staff.
  • Assist students to gain greater confidence and competence in their learning, and organisation of their learning.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the specific needs of students with academic and social emotional needs.
  • Have experience in delivering intervention programs.
  • Have a willingness to provide small group instruction.

Other Requirements

  • A current blue card, first aid currency and appropriate teacher aide qualifications are required.
  • The Principal may require the Teacher Assistant to undertake other duties from time to time (subject to the person’s ability to perform such duties) and in keeping with their role.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with work colleagues, and to communicate clearly and enthusiastically with staff, students, and families.
  • An ability to support and enact a restorative practices approach to conflict resolution is required.

As a member of the College, the successful applicant is required to follow all workplace, health and safety requirements that include but are not limited to:

  • Adherence to and working knowledge of policy requirements;
  • Cooperation with audit, professional learning and training/drill processes;
  • Meticulous attention to reporting responsibilities and record-keeping obligations in relation to all workplace, health and safety matters.

The Package

The appointment is under the conditions of the Fairholme College Certified Agreement 2025 and will attract proportional time release and remuneration.

Selection Process
