Mortgage Underwriter | Permanent | Sydney | Leading Non-Bank Lender

Sydney CBD location | Hybrid (3-4 days in office)

Our client, a leading non-bank lender based in the heart of Sydney, is seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their growing credit team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a high-performing environment, supporting the delivery of efficient, compliant, and commercially sound lending outcomes.

In this role, you will report directly to the Credit Operations Manager and work closely with internal stakeholders as well as external partners including brokers, introducers, and other key parties across the lending ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite residential mortgage applications, primarily via broker and third-party origination channels
  • Manage a high volume of loan applications while maintaining strong attention to detail and compliance standards
  • Ensure all lending decisions align with internal credit policies and regulatory requirements
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, introducers, and key stakeholders
  • Apply a commercially balanced approach to credit decisioning while managing risk effectively
  • Contribute to maintaining high service levels and turnaround times across the underwriting function

About You

  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in mortgage underwriting or credit assessment within a bank or non-bank environment
  • Must hold a DLA of $1M
  • Strong understanding of the consumer mortgage lending market and lending policies
  • Solid knowledge of broker/introducer channels and market practices
  • Sound understanding of relevant State and Federal regulatory requirements, including banking and finance law
  • Ability to manage high volumes of work while maintaining accuracy and compliance
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and customer focus
  • Certificate IV in Mortgage Broking (or willingness to obtain); Diploma preferred
