We’re Hiring | Multiple Roles –APS6 Messaging / Exchange Specialist

We are seeking an experienced APS6‑equivalent technical specialists to support the ongoing management and enhancement of a large‑scale enterprise messaging environment within an Australian Government department.

Role overview

• Estimated start date: Wednesday, 01 July 2026
• Contract duration: 12 months
• Extension options: Up to two extensions of 12 months each
• Experience level: APS6 equivalent
• Location: ACT
• Working arrangements: Onsite
• Flexible work: Remote arrangements may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis, subject to business needs. Candidates must clearly state their preferred work location if outside ACT/Canberra
• Maximum hours: 40 hours per week
• Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline (Prefer Active Clearance )

About the role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing management and enhancement of enterprise communication platforms, including a hybrid Exchange environment and associated solutions. The role includes hands‑on operational support as well as ongoing Exchange migration activities.

Key responsibilities

• Maintenance of existing Exchange Server infrastructure and Enterprise Vault archiving solutions
• Migration of mail data, including groups, to Exchange Online
• Development of migration approaches and rationalisation of Enterprise Vault archive data
• Investigation and resolution of complex technical issues across the messaging stack
• Creation and maintenance of technical documentation including as‑built, design, migration, disaster recovery and decommissioning documentation
• Technical representation at project and governance meetings
• Facilitation of technical workshops when required
• Cross‑skilling with team members and support for related teams such as the service desk

Application requirements

Candidates must submit a one‑page pitch (up to 5,000 characters) addressing all selection criteria.

Essential criteria

• Expert knowledge of Exchange Server, Exchange Online and hybrid Exchange configurations in complex multi‑forest environments
• Proven experience delivering Exchange migrations, including to Exchange Online, cross‑forest and from legacy Exchange versions
• Advanced Exchange troubleshooting expertise across mail flow, gateways and hybrid resource connectivity
• Strong Windows Server fundamentals including Active Directory, DNS, DFS and Group Policy (including Advanced Group Policy Management)
• Experience working within Australian Government cyber security frameworks including ISM, Essential 8 and ACSC hardening guides
• Strong capability in writing high‑quality technical documentation, design artefacts and standard operating procedures

Desirable criteria

• Experience with Arctera Enterprise Vault, Microsoft Purview Information Protection (MPIP), Microsoft Intune and Intune policy management
• Exposure to broader Microsoft 365 services
