Tradewind Australia is partnering with a not-for-profit legal service in Traralgon to recruit a dedicated Paralegal Support Worker. This role offers the opportunity to provide essential wraparound support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by family violence and sexual assault.

About the Role

In this role, you will assist clients navigating complex legal and social systems by providing emotional, practical and court-related support.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include supporting clients in their interactions with police, legal aid and other agencies, as well as connecting them with culturally safe counselling and support services.

The role sits within a holistic, client-centred team committed to addressing the social and legal needs of clients impacted by family violence and sexual assault.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clients with emotional, practical and court-related support

  • Assist clients in their interactions with police, legal aid and other agencies

  • Facilitate access to culturally safe counselling and support services

  • Help clients navigate legal processes, including family violence intervention orders and child protection matters

  • Provide direct support to address underlying social issues contributing to family violence

  • Work collaboratively with legal, community and support services to respond to clients' needs

What You'll Bring

Essential

  • A current Victorian Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one

  • A current Police Check or willingness to obtain one

  • A valid driver's licence

  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: community services, family violence, family services, legal support or working with Aboriginal communities

  • Strong interpersonal skills, resilience and empathy

  • Ability to work in a trauma-informed and culturally safe manner

  • Ability to support clients experiencing complex and sensitive circumstances

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
