Position Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Brisbane team for a self-sufficient and motivated Senior Electrical Engineer to support the electrical scope on a major gas-fired power generation project in Queensland, delivered by EMtek as Design and Engineering Management Subcontractor on behalf of a Tier 1 head contractor.
Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Electrical Engineer will use technical knowledge and experience to provide support in a diverse role within a professional and friendly environment. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for the duration of the project design phase, with potential for extension or transition to a permanent role.
Your duties will include but not be limited to:
- Electrical engineering across LV, MV and HV systems, taking designs from concept through to completed IFC deliverables.
- Manage vendor-supplied packaged equipment through the full lifecycle including specification, tender support, technical evaluation, vendor data review, interface coordination (power, control, communications, foundations and integration into the facility design.
- Provide design inputs to the hazardous area dossier and ensure compliance of all integrated equipment across fuel gas, hydrogen and combustion turbine zones, including Ex equipment certification review, installation compliance and interface coordination through the design lifecycle.
- Small Power & Lighting, EV charging station and Lightning Protection package design, including calculations, single line diagrams, cable schedules, illumination studies and specifications.
- Coordination with the site-wide arc flash study, protection coordination and earthing scheme owned by the unit supplier — providing load, cable and equipment data as required.
- Providing technical input and advice within a growing team of electrical / controls engineers and to the wider EMtek team.
- Support and collaborate with other disciplines and designers to develop designs across water, fuel gas, F&G and building services scopes.
- Attend HAZOP, CHAZOP, LOPA/SIL, Constructability and Safety in Design workshops on the electrical scope.
Skills and experience
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- 7+ years of multidiscipline electrical engineering experience in power, oil & gas, resources or infrastructure.
- RPEQ or eligibility for RPEQ registration in Queensland highly regarded.
- Proven experience as a technical design electrical engineer (LV, MV/HV, VSDs, instrumentation etc.) able to produce calculations and design documentation.
- Familiarity with AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 61439 (switchgear), AS/NZS 1768 (lightning protection), AS/NZS 62196 (EV charging) and IEEE 1584 (arc flash).
- Practical experience working in construction, commissioning and/or operations in power generation, oil & gas or minerals processing.
- Good presentation and communication skills at all levels.
- Awareness and collaboration across multiple disciplines, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and process controls.
