Your Mission
MAKO’s mission is to improve the efficiency of the global aviation fleet, saving billions in fuel and megatonnes of CO2 every year. We are looking for a Manufacturing Technician to drive operational excellence, optimise lean initiatives and enhance quality within our advanced manufacturing environment. You will report to the Production Team Lead and oversee production equipment operations, maintain traceability and compliance with the quality management system, balance competing priorities, and provide constructive feedback. The typical hours for this position will be 7AM-3PM, subject to change as our manufacturing requirements evolve.
What You Will Do
- Run various production processes according to established work instructions, gather traceability details, and ensure alignment with manufacturing priorities and timelines
- Support the handling of non-conformities by ensuring correct segregation and recording within the Quality Management System (QMS). Prepare quality and traceability files, support colleagues with non-conformity problem definitions, and audit records to confirm QMS compliance
- Promote a compliant workplace environment by routinely adhering to MAKO’s QMS protocols and transferring operational best practices to the broader team
- Participate in creating lean tools and frameworks that optimise efficiency. Help track and report on manufacturing program results, identifying key areas to refine team outputs and methods
- Engage in technical groups, foresee prospective questions, and offer recommendations on intricate technical problems. Ensure transparent communication with varied audiences to sustain constructive feedback loops
- Demonstrate a dedication to WHS guidelines. Engage in routine risk assessments, assist with deploying controls, and guide colleagues in upholding safe operational practices
- Manage multiple overlapping project schedules effectively, collaborating closely with colleagues to maintain an optimal focus on high-value operational targets

About You
- 5+ years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment, ideally within a regulated industry (aerospace, automotive, or medical)
- Demonstrated experience working with Quality Management Systems (QMS), including documentation, non-conformity reporting, and audit compliance
- Demonstrated analytical capability to perform root cause investigations and resolve complex technical challenges
- Experience working within a team and guiding others on effective prioritisation
- Proven track record of implementing lean manufacturing methodologies and driving continuous process improvements
- Strong commitment to Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), with experience conducting risk assessments and ensuring adherence to safety protocols
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical information for diverse audiences
- You thrive in a rapid, uncertain, and constantly evolving startup environment

- Impact: Aviation is one of the hardest to abate industries, and its share of global emissions is only growing. Join our mission to improve the efficiency of the global fleet and save millions of tonnes of CO2 every year
- Technology: Our technology leverages the drag-reducing properties of shark skin to make aircraft more efficient. You'll be exposed to expertise and developments in materials, photolithography, fluid dynamics, and scale manufacturing
- Team: Our team focuses on achieving our mission. We live our values of lift over drag, active transparency, and changing the boundary conditions, and we welcome new team members who want to do the same
- Corporate Jet: We have (most of) a corporate jet. It won't fly, but it sure does look cool
Join a team that is working to improve the efficiency of the global aviation fleet, and build a future where a new surface replaces the need for a new aircraft.
