City: Preston, Victoria
Est. A$115,665 - A$127,232 / yr
Contract type: Full time
  • Senior regional leadership role with Victoria's environmental regulator
  • Lead frontline regulatory operations across Northern Metropolitan Melbourne
  • Drive cultural change, regulatory excellence and meaningful community and environmental outcomes

EPA Victoria is the state's independent environmental regulator, working to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of pollution and waste on Victorians and their environment. As the organisation continues its transformation under the Environment Protection Act 2017, EPA is focused on becoming a world-class regulator, using its powers, tools and partnerships to prevent harm to human health and the environment.

Reporting to the Director, Metropolitan Melbourne Area, the Regional Manager will lead EPA's on ground frontline regulatory response across the Northern Metropolitan Melbourne Region. This critical leadership role will oversee engagement and education, compliance monitoring and inspections, regulatory notices and enforcement activity, and responses to environmental and public health incidents.

As a senior leader within EPA, you will lead and manage a regional team through change, setting clear expectations and building a positive, high-performing and accountable culture. You will be a visible leader and key representative of the Branch, effectively managing complex and, at times, challenging conversations with senior external stakeholders, including government partners, councils, co-regulators, industry and community representatives.

The region operates in a fast paced and complex environment, involving the regulation of a variety of industries, sectors and risks. You will be required to balance multiple priorities, maintain an operational focus across the region, whilst ensuring early issues escalation and management using a one EPA approach. The role actively contributes to broader EPA strategic and organisational priorities.

The successful candidate will bring senior management experience in a regulatory operations environment, supported by a strong understanding of regulation, risk-based decision making and evidence-led practice. A collaborative and values-led leader, you will have the ability to build capability, clarify priorities, manage resources effectively and drive continuous improvement. Regulatory experience and leadership capability will be essential, while experience in environmental regulation will be highly regarded.
