About the role

Join AGL Loy Yang for the 2027 Mechanical Apprenticeships

Are you a school leaver who wants a career using your hands? Or have you been out in the workforce and tried other roles or industries and it hasn't felt right? If so, this could be the sign you need to start your new career with AGL as a 1st year Mechanical Apprentice - the first step toward becoming a qualified Fitter.

As a Fitter, you'll learn to assemble, install, maintain, and repair the mechanical systems that keep power stations operating efficiently. You'll master precision skills like aligning turbines, overhauling pumps and valves, and fitting high-pressure piping-while interpreting complex technical drawings and working with heavy industrial equipment - All this while contributing to critical infrastructure that powers homes, industries, and entire communities.

At AGL Loy Yang in the Latrobe Valley of Victoria, we are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as Mechanical Apprentices. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised Trade Qualification in a supportive and team-oriented environment.

To be successful, you'll need:

  • Completion of Year 11 or equivalent by the end of 2026
  • Cert II related to the trade is highly desirable, however not essential.
  • Demonstrated interest in your nominated trade.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to travel to and from worksite.
  • Available to commence Apprenticeship in January 2027

Shortlisted candidates will undergo aptitude testing and a full medical as part of the selection process.
