Open Pit Mine Surveyor – Wilpinjong Mine

Our Wilpinjong Mine is an open-cut coal mining operation located in the western coalfields of New South Wales, approximately 40–50 kilometres northeast of Mudgee, near the village of Wollar. Wilpinjong produces high-quality thermal coal for both domestic and export energy markets and is one of Peabody’s most productive and lowest-cost operations.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Open Pit Mine Surveyor to join our Technical Services team at Wilpinjong Mine. Reporting to the Senior Mine Surveyor, you will play a key role in supporting mining operations through the delivery of accurate survey data, pit set-outs, stockpile surveys and drone-based aerial mapping projects. Your key responsibilities

  • Conduct daily survey pickups and set-outs to support safe and efficient mining operations.
  • Generate accurate as-built models, volume calculations and reporting using Vulcan software.
  • Operate Trimble GPS equipment and conduct UAV drone surveys to collect and process spatial data.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams on mine design, planning and infrastructure projects.
  • Maintain survey control systems, data integrity and survey data management processes.
  • Complete machine guidance calibration, validation and operational checks.

About you

  • Degree or Diploma in Surveying.
  • Proven experience working as a Mine Surveyor within an open-cut mining environment.
  • Experience using Trimble GPS equipment and Vulcan software.
  • Exposure to PointStudio, drone survey and data processing software will be highly regarded.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and data quality.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
