Design Manager

About the Role

Patterson Building Group is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead and coordinate the design process across a diverse portfolio of commercial construction projects throughout NSW.

Working closely with project teams, consultants and clients, you will ensure the seamless delivery of design from pre-construction through to project completion. Key Responsibilities

As our Design Manager, you will

• Prepare and maintain Design Management Plans for each project in accordance with Patterson Building Group procedures.
• Manage the design process to ensure documentation and shop drawings are accurate, compliant, reviewed and approved prior to construction.
• Coordinate and control design responsibilities in accordance with contractual obligations.
• Develop, monitor and update design programmes while administering consultant and subcontractor agreements.
• Review and assess design consultant performance to ensure compliance with consultancy agreements.
• Monitor and manage design costs to ensure they align with project budgets.
• Lead value engineering initiatives to improve project outcomes while maintaining quality and functionality.
• Identify design-related construction risks and implement practical solutions to eliminate or minimise hazards.
• Support the estimating team by providing innovative and efficient construction methodologies.
• Capture, collate and distribute quality lessons learned from live projects across the business.
• Communicate industry updates, regulatory changes and revised standards to relevant stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively with the HSEQ Manager to further develop and implement digital QA and ITP systems.
• Maintain and continuously improve Patterson Building Group's Standard Building Details library.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or a related discipline.
• A minimum of five years' experience in Project Engineering, Design Coordination or Design Management within commercial construction.
• Strong knowledge of Australian building codes, standards and construction regulations.
• Proven experience managing the design process from pre-construction through to project completion.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and authorities.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across several projects.
