Your opportunity
We are seeking an initiative-taking, driven leader for the role of 'Manager Trading' to shape, inspire and drive our team within Ergon Retail at Energy Queensland. This role can be based at either Brisbane, Mackay, Rockhampton or Townsville and is a management position, driving change across the Wholesale Markets and Business Development Team, working collaboratively with Energy Risk and Commercial Services.
The successful candidate will manage and oversee the energy trading team, ensuring compliance with the Energy Commodity Risk Management Policy, and taking responsibility for the financial performance of the electricity and renewable energy portfolio. The role spans electricity trading, both physical and financial, gas, renewable energy certificates trading, PPA offtake and optimisation of our expanding BESS Fleet.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Taking responsibility for Wholesale Markets gross margin.
- Motivate and lead a multidisciplinary team to achieve strategic and financial goals.
- Mentor and develop staff through performance reviews and training plans.
- Design and implement trading strategies to optimize risk adjusted return.
- Ensure adherence to the Energy Commodity Risk Management Policy.
- Be a Responsible Manager for Ergon Energy Retail’s Australian Financial Services Licence.
- Develop, present and outwork trading strategies for optimal risk adjusted return outcomes.
- Provide strategic input on product development and market opportunities.
- Manage market operations for Barcaldine power station to maximise gross margin.
- Commercial Optimisation of PPA and BESS operations
- Offer expert wholesale market advice to senior management.
The remuneration for your new role is from $312k Total Fixed Remuneration + up to 10% at risk performance bonus annually.
What you’ll bring
This role has a strong emphasis on transformative leadership and requires excellent communication skills to effectively engage with all levels of the organisation. Further experience required includes:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience working across financial and energy trading markets. Ideally from an Electricity / Energy Trading, we are also open to Gas or other Commodity Trading backgrounds.
- Demonstrated experience in the formulation and implementation of trading strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in the formulation and presentation of executive level briefings.
- An initiative-taking, self-driven, leader who is driven by process improvement, transformation, and change.
- Knowledge of the Australian Energy Market, energy trading, and regulatory environment.
- Proven senior management experience in similar roles, including performance management, coaching, and mentoring teams.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate wholesale market transactions for positive outcomes.
- Capability to develop and maintain third-party relationships while managing political and business priorities.
- Experience in identifying and delivering new business streams to meet strategic targets.
- Ability to negotiate high-value deals for positive outcomes.
