Sonographer/Educator

Australian Institute of Ultrasound (AIU) | Broadbeach Waters, Gold Coast

For over 30 years, the Australian Institute of Ultrasound (AIU) has been Australia's leading provider of practical ultrasound education.

Each year, we deliver more than 350 hands-on courses across 15 specialties, helping thousands of healthcare professionals develop the skills and confidence to use ultrasound in clinical practice. Our programs are delivered by an experienced team of sonographers and specialist clinicians in a supportive, collaborative learning environment.

We're looking for an experienced sonographer who enjoys sharing their knowledge and is interested in developing as an educator while continuing to practise clinically. At AIU, we believe our educators should remain connected to clinical practice, so this role is designed to complement ongoing clinical work rather than replace it.

About the Role

Working as part of our faculty, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality ultrasound education to doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

This position is ideally suited to an experienced sonographer looking to develop their skills in education while continuing to practise clinically. You'll work 2–4 days per week with AIU while maintaining at least one day of clinical practice each week. We believe remaining clinically active is an important part of delivering contemporary, relevant and practical education.

This role combines practical teaching with educational development, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety and is passionate about improving healthcare through education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver practical ultrasound scanning tutorials to small groups.
  • Present lectures, demonstrate scanning techniques and provide individualised feedback.
  • Support the development, review and continuous improvement of course content and educational resources.
  • Work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary faculty to ensure a consistent, high-quality learning experience.
  • Contribute to maintaining AIU's reputation for excellence in ultrasound education.

About You

You are an experienced sonographer who enjoys teaching, mentoring and supporting others to learn.

You will have:

  • A recognised postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound.
  • Current ASAR registration.
  • At least five years' clinical experience as a general sonographer.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A genuine passion for education and lifelong learning.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Highly Regarded:

  • Experience in one or more specialist areas including, but not limited to, Echocardiography, Musculoskeletal, Vascular or Obstetrics.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or equivalent teaching experience.
  • A Master's degree in Medical Ultrasound or a related field.

Why Join AIU?

  • Be part of Australia's leading ultrasound education provider.
  • Help shape the next generation of ultrasound clinicians.
  • Work alongside highly respected sonographers and specialist clinicians in a supportive, collaborative environment.
  • Enjoy a varied role that combines teaching, educational development and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain your clinical practice while developing your career as an educator.
  • Receive on-going training, mentoring and support to develop your skills as an educator.
  • Be supported with training and mentoring in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) education.
  • Gain opportunities to deliver courses at hospitals and healthcare organisations across Australia.
  • Competitive salary, negotiated according to experience.

Employment

Part-time position (2–4 days per week with AIU). To ensure our education remains grounded in current clinical practice, our educators maintain at least one day of clinical work each week.
