Role Description

Our firm is seeking a highly organised Bookkeeper to join our team on a part-time basis, preferably for one day per week. Based in our South Hurstville office, this role is responsible for the financial administration of the firm, including general bookkeeping, trust accounting, payroll processing, and legal practice financial compliance.

The successful candidate will work closely with the firm's solicitors and administrative staff to ensure accurate financial record keeping, efficient billing processes, and compliance with all applicable accounting and trust account requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining accurate financial records, ledgers, and accounting data.
  • Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
  • Reconciling general bank accounts and legal trust accounts.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal trust accounting regulations and firm policies.
  • Entering receipts, payments, invoices, and financial documentation into the LEAP legal software.
  • Preparing and processing staff payroll, including payroll records and related obligations.
  • Assisting with client billing, invoices, and matter-related financial administration.
  • Preparing journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial reports and management accounts.
  • Monitoring cash flow and following up outstanding accounts where required.
  • Maintaining accurate filing and record management of financial documents.
  • Liaising with external accountants, auditors, and relevant regulatory bodies as required.
  • Responding to internal enquiries relating to financial transactions and records.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial and administrative processes.

About you

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Completion of a recognised bookkeeping, accounting, or finance qualification (or currently working towards one), including vocational training and practical exposure to bookkeeping functions. Extensive prior experience is not essential.
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial administration. Candidates with limited experience but a demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to assist with the preparation and interpretation of financial reports and support month-end and year-end accounting processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems. Experience with LEAP Legal Software or within a legal or professional services environment is advantageous but not essential.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Sound numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to maintain accurate financial records and reconciliations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with solicitors, support staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of trust accounting requirements, or a willingness to learn and develop expertise in legal industry accounting practices.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and client information.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and contribute positively to a small team environment.
