Senior Technical Engineer - Managed Services
Fusion5
- Own complex incidents end-to-end
- Mentor and uplift the wider team
- Shape solutions, not just support them
Fusion5 is going beyond with technology, helping businesses transform through business applications, AI, cloud and security. Our Managed Services team keeps customer environments running reliably day in, day out, and we're after a Senior Technical Engineer who can own the hardest problems, mentor the engineers around them, and bring genuine technical judgement to how solutions get designed and delivered. This role can be based flexibly across any of our Australian offices.
You raise concerns early and bring well-formed alternatives rather than just objections, and you're comfortable challenging an unsafe or unsustainable technical approach even when it's not the easy thing to say. You use AI tooling like Copilot deliberately, reviewing its output with the same rigour as hand-written work, and you stay honest about what's genuinely useful versus hype rather than overstating your confidence in new tools. And because you've been the engineer other people escalate to, you know how to build that capability in others too — through coaching that lifts people up rather than just taking the problem off their plate.
What you'll be doing
- Take ownership of complex incidents, problems, changes and technical risks, acting as a senior escalation point for engineers and stakeholders
- Lead technical investigation, troubleshooting and recovery activities, including major incident response, to keep services stable and performing
- Design, implement and optimise secure, scalable, supportable solutions that genuinely fit customer requirements and organisational standards
- Lead delivery of projects, migrations and technical improvement initiatives, owning workstreams end-to-end including risk and dependency management
- Mentor and coach engineers through peer review, knowledge sharing and hands-on technical guidance, building capability across the team
- Drive root cause analysis and problem management that actually reduces recurring issues, not just resolves the one in front of you
- Provide technical input into planning, estimations and pre-sales activities, and support customer workshops with practical, credible recommendations
What you bring
You take full ownership of technical outcomes, not just assigned tasks — exercising sound judgement on when to push through and when to escalate, without becoming the default owner of every hard problem that lands on the team. You know the difference between a non-negotiable and an acceptable trade-off: firm on security, data integrity and architectural soundness, but genuinely pragmatic when circumstances call for it, and able to explain those trade-offs clearly to customers and engineers alike.
- Significant experience supporting and implementing Microsoft Modern Work and Security solutions within a Managed Services, IT Services or Professional Services environment, including Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra ID, Defender, Purview and related security technologies.

- Hands-on experience delivery and supporting Microsoft Modern Work and Security solutions, including: Microsoft 365 administration and architecture, Microsoft Intune and endpoint, management, Microsoft Entra ID and identity governance, Microsoft Defender security technologies, Microsoft Purview compliance and information protection, Security and compliance operations across Microsoft environments, PowerShell, Microsoft Graph and automation scripting, Microsoft Copilot and AI-enabled workplace solutions, Leading migrations, deployments, technical remediation and service improvement initiatives in complex customer environments.
- Experience acting as a technical escalation point and developing less-experienced engineers
- A solid understanding of secure administration, access controls, change management and operational risk
- Experience planning and delivering technical implementations, migrations or improvement initiatives
- Exposure to implementing Microsoft Copilot or other AI technologies is a genuine advantage
- Ability to explain complex technical issues, risks and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience, plus relevant industry certifications in cloud, infrastructure, networking, systems administration, security or service management
