dnata, one of the world's largest air services providers, offers a wide range of ground handling, cargo, travel and flight catering services across five continents, and is excited to announce a new opportunity within its Ramp and Baggage Team as a Baggage Operations Manager.
About The Role
The Baggage Operations Manager is responsible for the effective and safe management of all baggage handling activities at Sydney Airport for dnata. This role ensures the seamless coordination between teams to meet operational targets, maintain service excellence, and uphold safety and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the baggage handling function, ensuring all activities are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with operational standards
- Maintain a strong focus on cost control and resource optimisation, including effective rostering, equipment utilisation, and minimising overtime and wastage
- Ensure both inbound and outbound baggage operations run cohesively and meet all required service and delivery timelines
- Drive a strong safety culture, ensuring full compliance with all safety procedures, risk controls, and regulatory obligations
- Collaborate with other operational departments to optimise workflow, reduce delays, and enhance service delivery
- Monitor operational performance and KPIs, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
- Lead, coach, and develop the baggage team to drive high engagement, accountability, and results
- Effectively manage operational disruptions, ensuring rapid response and minimal impact to service and safety
- Ensure deadlines and service level agreements are achieved, and compliance in relation to company airport and CAA procedures
- Maintain a safe working environment and promote at all times the vision, mission, and values of dnata
Essential Requirements
- Strong understanding of cost drivers within baggage operations, with the ability to manage budgets, control spending, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service or safety
- Skilled in aligning resources (people and equipment) with demand patterns to maximise efficiency and minimise waste or unnecessary cost
- Ability to interpret operational and financial data to support sound decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives
- Deep understanding of safety standards, risk controls, and compliance requirements in the aviation environment
- Strong capability to respond to operational disruptions or cost challenges quickly and effectively
- Must have a valid driver's licence
Key Competencies
- Previous experience in or knowledge of airline industry principles and procedures
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, airline partners, and senior management
- Experience leading diverse teams in high-pressure environments, with a focus on accountability, performance, and development
