Assistant Development Manager
scouted.
Our client is a privately owned Melbourne property developer with a fully integrated construction arm, meaning they deliver their own projects from acquisition through to completion rather than relying on third-party builders. With more than two decades in the market and 35-plus projects delivered, they currently have three student accommodation buildings in the pipeline over the next 3 to 5 years (two already holding planning permits), alongside a run of boutique residential apartment projects. This role sits across both, giving genuine variety in scale and asset type.
THE ROLE
This newly created role sits across the business's residential and student accommodation pipeline, reporting to the Managing Director. You'll support feasibility, due diligence, planning and delivery across a genuinely varied set of projects, working with strong Estate Master capability at the core of the role. There's a defined path from here toward a development team lead position as the business scales.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Preparing and maintaining development feasibility models in Estate Master to support acquisition and project decisions
- Supporting due diligence, including market, site and planning research, and consultant fee reviews
- Coordinating town planning consultants, tracking application progress, and managing Council RFIs
- Administering consultant contracts and agreements across town planning and design development
- Supporting design development and working drawing coordination with architects, engineers and other consultants
- Assisting the project team through construction, including shop drawing coordination, defects and handover
- Contributing to sales and marketing coordination, including agent fee reviews and market research
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A bachelor's degree in property, construction management, planning or a related discipline
- 4 to 7 years' experience in residential and/or student accommodation development, construction or a related development management role
- Demonstrated, hands-on proficiency in Estate Master
- Working knowledge of Victorian planning permit processes and approval frameworks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills across a broad range of stakeholders
- Sound analytical and organisational skills, comfortable managing competing priorities across multiple projects
WHAT'S ON OFFER
- $110,000 to $130,000 + super + bonus, with flexibility on title and salary for an outstanding candidate
- A clear growth path toward a development team lead role
- Direct, regular exposure to senior leadership rather than several layers of management
- A collegial, in-office culture in quality offices, with a small team where good work is noticed and rewarded
