The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Payroll Team Lead to join a well-known, iconic brand. This role will see you leading a small payroll team of 4 while overseeing the delivery of accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll services in a high-volume environment.

In this role, you’ll take charge of the payroll function, guiding your team to meet deadlines, maintain compliance, and deliver exceptional service to the business. You’ll be hands-on when required, while also focusing on team leadership, reporting, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a small payroll team (4 direct reports), providing coaching, support, and regular performance feedback
  • Oversee payroll operations for both Australia and New Zealand, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legislation (approximately 8500 employees in total)
  • Monitor and interpret awards, enterprise agreements, and leave entitlements
  • Prepare and review payroll reports, reconciliations, and journal entries for month-end and year-end cycles
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify efficiencies and streamline workflows
  • Contribute to payroll-related projects and system enhancements

About You

  • Proven experience managing or supervising payroll in a large, multi-site business
  • Strong knowledge of payroll requirements, including award interpretation
  • Skilled in payroll reporting, reconciliations, and problem-solving
  • Familiarity with large payroll systems
  • Confident communicator with a collaborative, hands-on leadership style
  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment
