We're looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter to contribute to the growth and profitability in our WA Casualty business.

You'll work independently on complex and unusual risks with distinct accountability for your business results. This role combines hands-on underwriting expertise with strategic marketing and broker relationship management, with the autonomy to deliver results. You’ll bring exceptional technical knowledge of underwriting practices, strategic thinking, and a track record of building strong broker partnerships.

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with brokers and clients to facilitate the marketing and sale and training of the Liberty brand and products.
  • Reviewing, rating and underwriting target new business and renewal business in line with Liberty’s quality selection and adequate pricing guidelines.
  • Executing selling & negotiation strategies to ensure profitability & growth of specialty product line(s).
  • Ensuring brokers/clients receive a high level of service that differentiates Liberty from its competitors.
  • Communicating with other product line Underwriters in order to leverage cross-selling opportunities and deliver a complete service to the broker and client.
  • Ensuring premium payments are received and discrepancies investigated in a timely manner by referring to Debtors report from Finance department.
  • Managing the portfolio to ensure growth and retention.
  • Contributing to an effective team environment by interacting professionally with all team members and providing development, support and assistance as required.
  • Taking responsibility for mentoring, training and development of other less experienced employees in relevant product line(s).

About you

You will bring:

  • Significant previous relevant experience in the General (non-Life) Insurance industry.
  • Significant previous relevant experience in an aligned role with a broker or insurance company.
  • Technical Underwriting Skills
  • Highly proficient relationship building and influencing skills
  • Extensive verbal and written communications and presentation skills
  • Extensive negotiation, selling and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to drive for results and to manage and grow a successful profitable portfolio
  • Extensive analytical skills
  • Extensive business, financial and market acumen awareness/understanding
  • Strong strategic agility skills
  • Proven ability to mentor less experienced employees
