We have an opportunity for a driven and detail‑oriented Financial Accountant to join our Financial Accounting team on a 6‑month fixed‑term contract. This role is well suited to a proactive accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast‑paced professional services environment and takes pride in delivering accurate, timely financial information.

Working closely with the Financial Accounting Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the general ledger and supporting monthly, annual and statutory financial reporting. You’ll be someone who thrives on problem solving, enjoys partnering with stakeholders, and brings a disciplined approach to meeting deadlines.

Key responsibilities

  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly balance sheet and profit & loss reporting, as well as other management reports as required
  • Supporting the preparation of the Firm’s annual financial statements and liaising with external auditors to ensure timely audit completion
  • Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigating and resolving variances
  • Preparing and posting general journals, reallocating expenses and responding to finance‑related queries from stakeholders
  • Evaluating daily funding needs of the Firm and assisting with identifying and proposing suitable funding options
  • Assisting with banking compliance documentation on an annual and semi‑annual basis
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register
  • Supporting statutory tax obligations including GST, FBT and income tax (Australia and PNG) as required

Required qualifications and preferred experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related business discipline
  • Currently studying towards, or fully qualified as a CPA or CA
  • Demonstrated experience working as a Financial Accountant, ideally within a professional services environment
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with the ability to interpret and analyse financial information
  • High attention to detail with excellent numeracy and analytical skills
  • Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills
  • Well‑organised, self‑motivated and able to manage competing priorities to meet strict deadlines
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets and financial systems
  • Experience with Aderant or a similar large‑scale general ledger system highly regarded
