About the department

CITS is where creativity, culture, tourism, sport and community collide to shape the future of Western Australia.

As one of the State’s most exciting and influential agencies, we deliver work that reaches millions of people — from globally recognised tourism campaigns and major events, to cultural initiatives, creative industry development and transformative infrastructure projects.

CITS is a fast-paced, high-impact portfolio where big ideas, bold storytelling and strategic thinking are valued, and where talent has the opportunity to work across some of the most recognised and diverse brands, destinations and experiences in Western Australia.

Our teams work at the centre of projects that influence how WA is experienced, celebrated and connected — locally, nationally and internationally. Whether it’s promoting WA to global audiences, driving participation in sport and recreation, supporting world-class arts and cultural experiences, celebrating multicultural communities or delivering campaigns tied to major projects and events, the work is meaningful, visible and genuinely rewarding.

At CITS, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Work across a dynamic portfolio spanning tourism, creative industries, sport, recreation and multicultural interests.
  • Collaborate with industry leaders, creatives, government stakeholders and major partners.
  • Contribute to high-profile events, infrastructure projects and community initiatives with real social and economic impact.
  • Be part of a team that values innovation, creativity, collaboration and fresh thinking.

We’re looking for ambitious, creative and strategic thinkers who thrive in fast-moving environments, bring energy and ideas to the table, and want to work on projects that genuinely make a difference.

If you’re looking for a role where your work will be seen, felt and experienced across Western Australia and beyond, we’d love to hear from you.

Why work with us?

Our strength comes from our people.

At CITS, we bring together talented, passionate and creative people from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives — and we genuinely value the unique contribution every person brings to our organisation.

We’re committed to creating a workplace where people feel empowered to share ideas, challenge thinking, grow their careers and contribute to work that has real impact across Western Australia and beyond. This is a place where your voice matters, where innovation is encouraged, and where you’ll be surrounded by people who are driven, collaborative and purpose-led.

We know that diverse teams create better outcomes, stronger ideas and more meaningful connections with the communities we serve. That’s why we proudly foster an inclusive and supportive culture where everyone can thrive.

CITS is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, inclusion and workplace equity. We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, women and young people.

We are also committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

About Tourism WA

Tourism WA is responsible for promoting Western Australia as an extraordinary holiday destination, inspiring more people to visit our great State. Our focus is on marketing the destination; developing, attracting and promoting major sporting, cultural and business events; and supporting the development of significant tourism infrastructure and projects.

About the role

We’re seeking a visionary, globally minded marketing leader who understands how destinations compete for attention, relevance and growth in an increasingly dynamic and competitive world.

This is one of Australia’s premier tourism and destination marketing leadership opportunities — a role with genuine influence on how Western Australia is seen, experienced and desired by audiences across the globe.

Leading a high-performing team at the forefront of destination marketing, you will shape the future of WA’s brand and visitor economy through world-class campaigns, strategic aviation and commercial partnerships, digital innovation, content strategy, PR and international market engagement.

This is a rare opportunity to lead work that is both creatively ambitious and economically significant — positioning Western Australia as one of the world’s most compelling destinations for travel, events, culture and experience.

The successful candidate will bring a powerful combination of strategic capability, commercial acumen and creative instinct. They will understand how to build contemporary brands in complex environments and be confident operating at the intersection of government, industry, media and global partnerships.

Equally comfortable in executive and creative settings, they will know how to inspire teams, influence stakeholders, navigate public accountability and deliver bold, insight-led marketing that cuts through on a global stage.

We have one full time, fixed term Senior Executive Service (SES) appointment available for up to five years.

This is an exciting opportunity for an inspirational leader to drive a culture of achievement and deliver meaningful change in support of the economy by promoting Western Australia on a global stage. It calls for someone who can bring vision, energy, and purpose—leading with optimism and ambition, much like the spirit captured in “Walking on a Dream.”

Step into the journey, embrace the possibilities, and be part of shaping a future where Western Australia’s story is shared with the world. Click on the video below to be inspired.
