EL1 Assistant Director, Strategic Policy

  • $602.55 + superannuation
  • Contract to the 30th December initially

Join our team as the EL1 Assistant Director of Strategic Policy and play a pivotal role in driving meaningful reform within the national disability sector. In this strategic role, you will lead high-impact projects, influence policy implementation, and foster strong stakeholder relationships-all while working within a dynamic and evolving environment dedicated to making a difference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery and implementation of strategic reform projects aligned with organizational goals.
  • Analyze complex policy issues, develop high-quality advice, and communicate recommendations effectively.
  • Manage diverse stakeholder relationships and represent the organization at key forums.
  • Guide teams in developing policy and corporate documentation, ensuring clarity and precision.
  • Drive engagement initiatives and negotiate practical solutions for policy challenges.
  • Contribute to branch leadership and cultivate a high-performing, positive team culture.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in strategic policy development and implementation within the public sector.
  • Strong leadership abilities, including team and resource management.
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills tailored for government audiences.
  • Sound judgment, governance, and risk management capabilities.
  • Adaptability to respond to changing priorities and complex environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.

Nice To Have Skills

  • Knowledge of the disability sector.
  • Understanding of Commonwealth procurement rules and strategic commissioning.
  • Experience with legislation and delivery of reform projects.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Prior experience leading teams and managing significant policy initiatives, preferably within the public sector.
